The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Transit Authority (RTA) was created by the Wisconsin State Legislature and Governor in July 2005 to serve the counties of Kenosha, Milwaukee, and Racine. The principal duty of the RTA is to recommend to the State Legislature and Governor a permanent dedicated funding source for the local share of capital and operating costs of commuter rail and public transit. This website documents the statutory responsibilities of the RTA, its members and staff, its past and scheduled upcoming meetings, all materials considered by the RTA, a calendar of events including RTA and related meetings, and reports of interest to the RTA's work. The final report of the RTA to the Governor and Wisconsin Legislature has been completed and can be found here. The report covers the activities of the RTA over the 34-month period from February 2006 through November 2008. It documents the findings by the RTA pertaining to the present delivery of public transit services, the benefits of public transit, and the present funding of public transit services. The final RTA recommendations to the Governor and Legislature are presented in this report. A series of “Fact Sheets” have been prepared that provide answers to many of the questions regarding the work of the RTA and related issues. The Fact Sheets can be found here. One portion of this website has been developed to permit transmittal of written comments to the RTA and its staff. You may leave comments by going here. You can also follow the work of the RTA on Twitter at http://twitter.com/SEWISRTA. |
